WishBone Medical Adds Bontrager and Weidenbenner to Board

Warsaw, Indiana, October 24, 2017 – The Board of Directors of WishBone Medical recently voted to fill two seats on the Board.  The Board unanimously chose to add Jason Bontrager and Dave Weidenbenner to fill these seats.

Mr. Bontrager has been a partner in Jayco, Inc. until the company’s acquisition by Thor Industries. The company was founded by his grandfather in 1968 and was wholly-owned by his family until June 2016. Jason is also a partner and director at L&W Engineering, based in Middlebury, Indiana.  Working within his family’s business environment he had the opportunity to work in and manage several departments ranging from Marketing, Product Development, Operations, Engineering and Sales.  Throughout his time working at Jayco, he found his niche to be discovering opportunities and innovation.  As a result of this he had an opportunity to mentor in a Private Equity firm and now represents his interests and those of other members of the Bontrager family.

Mr. Weidenbenner has spent 35 years in the healthcare arena via his employment at Zimmer (now Zimmer Biomet), a worldwide manufacturer/supplier/marketer of orthopedic products for hip, knee, elbow, shoulder joint replacement and trauma.

Mr. Weidenbenner served in various hip marketing positions leading to Director Global Hip Marketing responsible for the worldwide hip product portfolio earlier in his career at Zimmer.  From 2004 until 2011, Mr. Weidenbenner served as the SVP of Global Brand Management.  In this position he was responsible for the strategic direction of the company’s worldwide portfolio of hip, knee, elbow, and shoulder products.  The job required market assessment and driving consensus agreement with the Americas, Europe, and Asia Pacific regions to maximize the company’s global investments. He also served on the company’s Operating Committee for a three-year term.

From 2012 until 2015, Mr. Weidenbenner was the VP of Corporate Programs, Sales, and Services. He was responsible for US sales training, US medical education (for surgeons), and managing the Southeast region of the company’s independent sales channel which included 8 distributorships.  He led the development and execution of a new tiered sales training program based upon preexisting orthopedic sales experience.  The sales training technique was changed from didactic to a role play model.

“I am very excited that Jason and Dave committed to serve on the Board of Directors at WishBone Medical,” says Nick Deeter, Chairman of the Board and CEO of WishBone Medical.  “They bring a lot of experience and will fill important rolls within the Board that will add significant shareholder value.”

Orthopaedic Pediatric Market Draws New Companies, Products

EPOSNA 2017, the combined annual meeting of the European Paediatric Orthopaedic Society and Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, served as an unveiling for new products, brands and companies as a focus on this niche market is drawing in device companies.

Two dozen device, bracing and pharmaceutical companies exhibited at EPOSNA in early May. The way Nick A. Deeter tells it, a decade ago there were three at the North American meeting: OrthoPediatrics (the company that Deeter founded in 2006), Biomet and Smith & Nephew. Attending EPOSNA with WishBone Medical, the pediatric company he founded earlier this year, Deeter said that he believes the pediatric segment is ripe for growth. For one, there is demand. WishBone estimates the market at $1.4 billion, growing at 10% per year. Two, it is one of the few areas in orthopaedics that has yet to gain attention from device companies—though our tracking of announcements in the space suggests that could be changing.
