EY Announces Nick Deeter of WishBone Medical as an Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2020 Midwest Award Finalist

Ernst & Young LLP (EY US) recently announced that Nick Deeter of WishBone Medical was named an Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2020 Midwest Award finalist. Now in its 34th year, the Entrepreneur Of The Year program honors entrepreneurial business leaders whose ambitions deliver innovation, growth and prosperity as they build and sustain successful businesses that transform our world. Deeter was selected as one of 22 finalists from a competitive pool of nominations by a panel of independent judges.

Award winners will be announced through a special virtual event in early October and will join a lifelong community of esteemed Entrepreneur Of The Year alumni from around the world. This year, unstoppable entrepreneurs who have provided extraordinary support for their communities, employees and others during the COVID-19 crisis will also be recognized for their courage, resilience and ingenuity.

Entrepreneur Of The Year is one of the preeminent competitive award programs for entrepreneurs and leaders of high-growth companies. The nominees are evaluated based on six criteria, including overcoming adversity; financial performance; societal impact and commitment to building a values-based company; innovation; and talent management. Since its launch, the program has expanded to recognize business leaders in more than 145 cities in over 60 countries around the world.

“It is truly an honor to be in the company of the exceptional individuals [selected finalists] working to improve the world through their own unique innovations. For me, this recognition is an added bonus to being on the verge of reaching my ultimate dream of improving the lives of children with orthopedic issues. While my career has centered on raising surgical standards for kids since 2006, my past company was limited in providing solutions to more than an exclusive list of hospitals. Even today, 95% of these children are not receiving the treatment that they need. WishBone Medical has become a huge catalyst to making FDA-cleared, anatomically appropriate implants more accessible to pediatric patients than ever before, with our single-use, sterile packed procedure kits. To me, recognition from a prestigious group like Ernst & Young tells me that the awareness of the need for these crucial solutions is quickly spreading—which is the most exciting part of this.”

– Nick Deeter, Founder & CEO, WishBone Medical

Regional award winners are eligible for consideration for the Entrepreneur Of The Year National Awards, to be announced in November during a virtual awards gala. The Entrepreneur Of The Year National Overall Award winner will then move on to compete for the EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year™ Award in June 2021.

Entrepreneur Of The Year Award winners become lifetime members of a global, multi-industry community of entrepreneurs, with exclusive, ongoing access to the experience, insight and wisdom of program alumni and other ecosystem members in over 60 countries — all supported by vast EY resources.

VIZIENT, INC. AWARDS CONTRACT TO WISHBONE MEDICAL TO DELIVER ANATOMICALLY APPROPRIATE ORTHOPEDIC IMPLANTS & INSTRUMENTS TO SURGEONS CARING FOR CHILDREN

WARSAW, Ind., JULY 27, 2020 WishBone Medical, a pediatric orthopedic company focused on innovative solutions designed around the unmet needs of children, announces a national agreement with Vizient, Inc., the largest member-driven health care performance improvement company in the United States. The agreement provides anatomically appropriate orthopedic solutions for arms, legs, spine, elbows, wrists and clavicles to surgeons caring for children.

“In the year 2020, there is still a huge technology deficit in the OR with 95%* of children receiving adult implants not cleared by the FDA for pediatric use. In some instances, these off-label applications can cause more harm than good. WishBone is thrilled about another game-changing opportunity to create greater access to solutions that are truly designed around the unmet needs of kids.”

– Nick Deeter, Founder and CEO, WishBone Medical

Vizient’s membership base comprises more than 50% of the nation’s acute care providers, which includes 95% of the nation’s academic medical centers, and more than 20% of ambulatory providers.

As possibly the only pediatric company in the world offering single-use, sterile packed procedure kits, WishBone customers are able to address supply chain obstacles and sterility issues inherent to reusable case and tray systems. The single-use model is crucial to making product accessible to Vizient member hospitals and surgery centers, while simplifying tracking and billing.

Through Vizient’s large membership base, WishBone’s “Just-In-Time” supply will allow health care facilities to benefit from immediate availability and shipment of product at contracted prices as needed.

“As surgeons take on a surge of cases post-COVID-19 pandemic, the need for single-use, sterile packed procedure kits has become increasingly apparent. The timing of this partnership could not be more serendipitous.”

– Kevin Blue, Chief Revenue Officer, WishBone Medical

In the $2.5B pediatric orthopedic market, by combining WishBone Medical’s single-use sterile kits for children with orthopedic issues with Vizient’s member hospitals and member ASC facilities, kids will finally receive anatomically appropriate solutions that they have always deserved.

Nick Deeter discusses the “new normal” of healthcare, post-COVID-19 on OrthoStreams

This morning, WishBone Founder & CEO, Nick Deeter, touches on the ‘new normal’ of healthcare: “As we’re all observing, hospital norms are fluctuating. Healthcare teams are thinking critically about patient safety and efficiency … How to reduce exposure to the virus, mobilizing limited resources and staff … Measures to minimize infection risks, etc. The silver lining, for us, is that the daunting issues hospitals are facing [in the orthopedic realm] can be mitigated …”

With a finger always on the pulse, Tiger Buford gives compelling insights on pressing, timely matters within the realm of orthopedics. As longtime fans of OrthoStreams, WishBone was ecstatic to be a part of today’s story.

FDA Annual Report Emphasizes Critical Need for Pediatric Orthopedic Implants

A recently released FDA annual report validates the existence of an overwhelming need for anatomically appropriate implants for children……  a need too large to be met by the traditional, re-useable case and tray business model in a market with restricted access by non-clinical gatekeepers and “vendor approval committees” at nearly each and every facility across the US.

As history will later confirm, this overwhelming need for anatomically appropriate orthopedic implants for children can only be addressed through the unparalleled, strategic distribution channels recently established AND the sterile, single-use, disposable pediatric procedural kit platform we are pioneering at WishBone Medical!

WISHBONE MEDICAL ADDS RESORBABLE IMPLANTS TO PRODUCT OFFERINGS

WishBone Medical Gains Distribution Rights to OsteoCrete®

WARSAW, Ind. AUGUST 15, 2019  WishBone Medical announces a private label distribution agreement with Bone Solutions, Inc. (BSI) for worldwide rights within pediatric orthopedics to license and sell OsteoCrete® — the first FDA (510K) approved magnesium-based bone void filler in the orthopedic marketspace, designed to assist with bone repair and regeneration. Expanding beyond the original application, OsteoCrete® developers are now harnessing the product’s unique properties to create bioresorbable implants to ultimately replace many current metal technologies simultaneously improving patient outcomes.

Affording BSI the North American Bone Graft Technology Leadership of the Year Award in 2009, OsteoCrete® is an injectable, moldable solution to attach ligaments and tendons to bone, and bone-to-bone, with a robust composition that is three times stronger than cancellous bone.1

“This product is the holy grail for pediatric orthopedics as the resorbable properties eliminate the need for secondary operations,” says WishBone Founder and CEO, Nick Deeter. “Kids already harbor a lot of anxieties around the idea of surgery alone. If we can save patients and their families the expense and worries of follow-up procedures, that alone is a big win.”

“For so many years, the orthopedics industry demonstrated a clear demand for osteogenic implants which mimic properties of the human bone. Prior to OsteoCrete®, calcium-based solutions contributed to bone healing, but with little mechanical support,” explains BSI President and CEO, Drew Diaz. “Not only is OsteoCrete® 100% resorbable – it offers excellent bone remodeling during the window of healing with uncompromised strength.”

BSI surpassed 600 cases implanting OsteoCrete® this year with a 100% success rate. Moving forward, the company is focused on further development of bioresorbable implants and will continue exploring innovative applications for this unprecedented orthobiologics technology.

“While patients of all ages and stature benefit from OsteoCrete® advancements, the greatest improvement will be felt by children whose bodies are continually growing and changing,” adds Kevin Blue, WishBone’s Chief Revenue Officer. “Our team could not be more excited to offer such a clearly advantageous solution to better equip the surgeons caring for them.”

Happy International Youth Day! Highlights from Grace Engineering Camp 2019

Intl-Youth-Day-2019_ENG-768x199

Happy International Youth Day! In celebrating this year’s theme of Transforming Education, we’re featuring a few of the many moments of inspired learning at last month’s Grace Engineering Camp — a one-of-a-kind program designed to spark students’ interest in STEM and engineering-related fields as they learn the fundamentals of mechanical engineering, computer-assisted design (CAD), 3D printing, and more. As part of the program’s debut curriculum, students were guided through the design, creation and testing of their own CO2 race dragsters.

WishBone Medical was thrilled to be a sponsor of the program’s first year, and our very own, Mary Wentorf, spent a couple of days as a speaker, herself: “In my session, I taught the students about the design process; leading them through a Fortnite vehicle design challenge to test out their new skills . . .  The students learned not only about the formal design process, but also gained experience in teamwork, brainstorming, concept generation, presentation skills, design evaluation, and constructive feedback.”

“On my second day, I was able to share with them all the fun things I’ve been able to do with my engineering degree over the past 20 years and led them in brainstorming/concept generation activities for their COrace cars.  The students were very inquisitive and were especially interested in how we at WishBone create product solutions for kids like them. All of that raw energy and talent, being able to see the spark of interest in young people’s eyes as they explored what will definitely be future successful careers made for an awesome week!  I’m so thankful to work at a place that values giving back to the community, and made it possible for me to invest my time hopefully inspiring future engineers!”
